Susan Lynn Weist Christensen

Lynn Weist Christensen, 61, passed away peacefully at home on March 4, 2025, in Ivins, UT. She was born on April 15, 1963, in Lodi, California, to Dennis John Weist and Patricia Mae Kundert Weist. Susan was an active and hardworking young woman. As a youth, she was on the swim team and taught swim lessons. Susan was a bright student and graduated high school early at just 17 years old. Susan valued education and learning throughout her life. She earned her bachelor’s degree at Brigham Young University, majoring in German education and participating in the foreign exchange program. One of her most meaningful experiences was spending a summer in Germany teaching mentally disabled children. She was a devoted mother who loved hiking, camping, trips to the library, and sharing classical music with her children. Susan spent countless hours sewing, crocheting, and cross-stitching heartfelt gifts for her children and grandchildren. Susan dedicated 17 years to teaching, beginning in California with GED classes before transitioning to middle and high school. She later moved her family to St. George, UT in 2004. She continued her career in Beaver Dam, Arizona, where she taught German, home economics, special education, and U.S. and state history until her retirement in 2013. On June 19, 2006, Susan was sealed to her sweetheart, George Steven “Steve” Christensen, in the Bountiful, UT Temple. They shared 18 wonderful years. Susan was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She was always generous, even when she had little to give. She loved to laugh and find humor even in the hardest situations. Her family will miss the songs she sang and the stories she told. Susan was preceded in death by her father, Dennis Weist; her brother, Andrew John Weist; and her daughter, Lydia Katherine Garceau. She is survived by her husband, Steve Christensen; her mother, Patricia Weist (Roseville, CA); her children, John Garceau (Provo, UT), Aaron Garceau (Ivins, UT), Adam and Brooke Garceau (St. George, UT), and Mary Garceau and Josh Jung (Lehi, UT); as well as five stepchildren, four grandchildren, and her siblings, Ronald and Sherrie Weist (Roseville, CA), Stephen and Jaclyn Weist (Eagle Mountain, UT), and Anne and Aaron Thomas (Johnstown, CO). Susan’s family will gather to honor her life on Wednesday, March 12. She will be laid to rest at Tonaquint Cemetery in St. George, UT.
